Six Days on the Snow, Two Coaches and One Goal: Better Snowboarding!

Fancy spending a whole week on your snowboard, working on your technique, learning new tricks and riding with a crew that shares your passion?

Our snowboard progression camp in Montgenèvre, in the French Alps, is designed for intermediate riders who want to take their riding to the next level. Six full days on the mountain, two certified snowboard instructors, video analysis and a programme covering everything from carving to freestyle.

And the best bit? You don’t have to travel halfway across the world to find a brilliant spot. Montgenèvre is just around an hour and a half from Turin, right on the Italian-French border.

Here’s what you can expect from a week with The Riding Experience.

Montgenèvre: A Little Alpine Gem Just Across the Border

Montgenèvre is one of those resorts that has a bit of everything. Wide, flowing pistes, steeper runs, tree-lined sections and plenty of terrain to explore make it a brilliant playground for snowboarders looking to improve their skills.

The resort is part of the Via Lattea ski area, giving us access to a huge variety of runs and riding conditions. That means we can adapt our sessions to the weather, the snow and, most importantly, what each rider needs to work on.

Whether we’re focusing on clean carving turns, getting comfortable with switch riding or finding the right terrain for freestyle progression, there’s plenty to keep us busy.

And because the village sits right in the middle of the resort, everything feels close and easy. No faffing about with long transfers every morning — just get your gear on and head for the slopes.

Six Full Days of Snowboarding: Let’s Get to Work!

This isn’t the sort of trip where you spend half the week warming up before finally getting some proper riding done.

The camp is built around six full days of snowboard coaching, giving you time to work on specific skills, practise them on the mountain and come back to them until they start to click.

On the first day, our instructors assess everyone’s riding and split the group into two smaller subgroups according to ability. This allows us to tailor the coaching more closely to each rider and make the most of our time on the snow.

Our goal isn’t to have everyone doing the same tricks by the end of the week. It’s to help you understand your riding, identify what needs improving and develop the skills to ride with more confidence, control and style.

And, of course, we’re here to have a cracking time while we’re at it!

What Will We Work On? A 360-Degree Approach to Snowboard Progression

The programme covers four main areas of snowboard technique. The idea is to develop a more complete riding style, rather than focusing on just one skill.

1. Carving: Get Those Turns Dialled In

Carving is one of the most satisfying parts of snowboarding when everything comes together. But getting clean, powerful turns takes more than simply leaning harder into your edges.

We’ll work on edge control, body positioning, balance and weight distribution, helping you link smoother turns and manage your speed with greater precision.

Whether you’re looking to improve your technique on steeper pistes or simply want your turns to feel more fluid, there’s always something to refine.

2. All-Mountain Riding: Get Comfortable Beyond the Groomed Runs

There’s a whole mountain out there beyond the perfectly groomed pistes.

We’ll work on adapting your riding to different terrain and snow conditions, developing better balance and learning to maintain a smooth, controlled line when things get less predictable.

The programme also introduces off-piste and freeride techniques, with the focus on reading the terrain, adjusting your stance and understanding the importance of safety. Any off-piste riding depends on conditions and the group’s ability.

The aim is to become a more versatile rider who can make the most of the mountain, rather than feeling comfortable only on one type of run.

3. Tricks on the Piste: Ollies, Nollies, Presses and spins

You don’t need to spend all day in a snowpark to start working on your freestyle.

We’ll look at the foundations of flat-ground tricks, including ollies, nollies, nose and tail presses, and 180s & 360s of course!

We’ll break the movements down into manageable steps, focusing on timing, balance and board control. Once you understand how to generate pop and manage your weight, you’ll have a much stronger foundation for progressing to more technical tricks.

And don’t worry if things don’t work first time. That’s what practice is for — and the occasional spectacular wipeout is practically part of the deal.

4. Snowpark Progression: Time to Get Airborne

We’ll dedicate a session to snowpark riding, working on the fundamentals of approaching features, taking off with control and landing safely.

Depending on the setup and conditions, we’ll work on features such as boxes and jumps, adapting the session to the group’s ability and experience.

If the local snowpark isn’t open, we’ll use the park at Serre Chevalier instead, where conditions allow.

The priority is to build good habits and confidence, rather than rushing into features you’re not ready for.

Two Certified Instructors, Small Groups and Video Analysis

Good coaching isn’t about shouting instructions from the bottom of a run and hoping for the best.

Our two certified snowboard instructors, both qualified to teach in France, will work with the group throughout the camp, providing technical feedback and helping each rider understand what to focus on next.

Splitting the group into two subgroups according to ability means we can keep the sessions relevant and give riders more targeted feedback.

We’ll also film your riding and review the footage together.

It might feel a bit strange seeing yourself snowboard from the outside at first, but video analysis is one of the most useful tools for understanding your technique. A movement that feels right when you’re riding might look completely different on screen.

Sometimes, spotting one small mistake is all it takes to unlock a turn or trick you’ve been struggling with for ages.

The idea is to give you clear, practical feedback that you can put straight into practice on your next run.

What Does a Typical Day at the Camp Look Like?

Our days are organised around making the most of the snow, with plenty of riding time and dedicated coaching.

Of course, the exact programme can change depending on weather, snow conditions and the needs of the group.

In the evening, there’s time to relax, grab some food and chat about the day’s sessions. We’ll also organise a group dinner at a local restaurant in Montgenèvre or across the border in Italy, plus an après-ski evening.

Because a good snowboard trip isn’t just about the hours spent riding. It’s also about sharing the experience with people who are just as keen as you are to get out on the mountain.

Seven Nights in Montgenèvre: Stay Close to the Slopes

For the camp, we’ll be staying at Chalet Blue Shutter, right in the heart of Montgenèvre village and around 50 metres from the slopes, ski schools and shops.

It’s a handy base for the week, keeping everything close by so we can spend less time getting organised and more time snowboarding.

The package includes:

The camp is organised in collaboration with Verticalife, an outdoor tour operator based in Turin, which manages the travel arrangements and booking.

That means you can focus on the important stuff: riding, learning and making the most of your time in the Alps.

Why Join a Snowboard Progression Camp?

You can learn a lot from riding on your own, watching tutorials or squeezing in the odd lesson during your winter holiday. But spending several consecutive days working with qualified instructors gives you a different kind of opportunity.

First, there’s the time on the snow. Six full days mean you can revisit the same skills, practise new movements and build on what you’ve learnt rather than starting from scratch every time you ride.

Then there’s the coaching. With instructors who can observe your technique, explain what’s happening and give you specific exercises, you can focus on the things that will make the biggest difference to your riding.

Video analysis adds another layer, helping you see your movements from the outside and understand how to improve them.

And finally, there’s the group. Sharing the mountain with other riders who are keen to progress creates a brilliant atmosphere: you encourage each other, exchange ideas and celebrate those little breakthroughs that make all the practice worthwhile.

By the end of the week, the aim is simple: to be a more confident, more versatile snowboarder, with a clearer understanding of your technique and plenty of ideas to keep progressing.
